We want you to get a firm grasp of who we are just by visiting this front page.  Breaking Stigma is a vision that seems far away, but to get to the end of the journey you must first start at the beginning of the path.  Our goals are marked below, but what we are doing to achieve those goals can be found within our newsletter, and on other parts of this site.  Breaking through stigma is not just a vision, it is a long path that starts at the bottom of a steep hill.  We are right now raising our support while putting together this website and connecting with you.

Our journey has many bridges we will be crossing as well as many mountains to climb.  With your effort to become involved, we can take the differences of the people in our world, and make them seem less than our similarities.  Every one of us deserves to be treated, respected, helped, encouraged, taught, and brought up just as any other human is.  We hope you will be inspired by this website to join our cause to Break through Stigma.

Our Goals

Breaking through stigma takes more than our knowledge of the stigmatized behavior, person, dynamic, or social group.  It takes a knowledge, of how we feed into a stigma.  Before we can truly understand why the world view's people as having a stigma with them, it starts with us and how we treat those around us, or the little bits of language we use.

To someone who has a mental illness, hearing someone talk about how they dealt with this "crazed" person at the mall today can feed into the stigma they have of themselves.  It also can make them fearful to open up about their illness to those around them for fear of persecution.

To someone of the gay persuasion, they might also find themselves in a similar situation.  Someone of a distinct race, however, doesn't get an option of whether they disclose their stigmatic feature.  These people face discrimination, whether they choose to or not.

Even your gender at times has a stigma behind it.  In our nation's past, women couldn't vote, or be seen by many in the workplace.

The problem does not just lie with any one of these problems, but with all of them.  Stigma is our concern, and we at Breaking Stigma Inc., have decided that the best way to combat stigma is not by just looking at one of these important issues, but all of them.

How might you ask will we do this?  We will be doing trainings, workshops, putting together literature, and publicly speaking about how we can all get back to that one basic connection we all have, our humanity.  We all face trials and tribulations in our lives.  Not one of us can find our way through life without something to overcome.  Sending a message of love and understanding to all of our fellow human beings is what this organization will put its focus on.

Announcing a Faith Page

Here at Breaking Stigma, we are seeking to change the perspective of the world on how we view each other.  This means we have to tackle difficult issues, which include how we are meant to treat each other.

One type of stigma is faith based stigma.  To show you how common we are, we have decided to dedicate a part of our website to any religions that would like to help us build a page designed around how the different world religions teach how we are to treat one another, and what their particular faith preaches about how to judge one another.

For more information about applying to help write one of these pages for your denomination, please send us an email with your qualifications to speak on behalf of your faith.  All are encouraged to apply.
